Nera Asimmetrica: A Hybrid Hypercar That Blends Retro Tech with Modern Styling

Breaking Patterns for the Future of Supercars

In the world of modern supercars, the concept of a hybrid car remains exclusive to large, proven brands. However, designer Andrea Grosso is challenging this notion with the Nera Asimmetrica, a hybrid hypercar that pays homage to the past while breaking patterns for the future. With its unique blend of retro tech and modern styling, the Nera Asimmetrica offers an intense driving experience like no other.

With a rear-mounted 9,500 rpm 3.8-liter twin turbocharged boxer engine, two 300 Kw electric motors in the front, and 2 120kw MGU-Hs, the Nera Asimmetrica is designed to deliver exceptional performance. Its modular chassis and aircraft-inspired cockpit create a striking aesthetic that sets it apart from other supercars on the market.

One of the standout features of the Nera Asimmetrica is its active valve control system, which enhances engine performance and fuel economy. This innovative technology allows drivers to optimize their driving experience while also reducing their environmental impact.

The Nera Asimmetrica also brings back the iconic pop-up headlights, but with a modern twist. Using 3D printing, Grosso has revived this classic design element, framing an idea from the past with solutions that look into the future.

When it comes to the driving experience, the Nera Asimmetrica puts everything at the driver's fingertips. With a full integration of steering wheel controls and custom AI for control and driver assistance, the car ensures an immersive and intuitive experience. Touchscreen HMIs integrated into the dashboard further enhance the driver's sense of control and interaction with the vehicle.

The Nera Asimmetrica project was realized using Rhinoceros 7 and rendered with Keyshot 11. This virtual prototype allowed Grosso to test a new vehicle configuration that offers flexibility in production, high levels of passive safety, and exceptional performance.

Technical specifications of the Nera Asimmetrica include a 6-cylinder 1015 hp boxer engine with 2 front electric motors and two 2 MGU-Hs in a split turbo configuration, resulting in a total of 1578 hp. The car features an 8-cell lithium-ion battery and has a wheelbase of 2521 mm, an overall length of 4583 mm, an overall width of 2079 mm, and an overall height of 1135 mm. The estimated dry weight is 1610 kg, with a weight distribution of 46/53 (front/rear). The Nera Asimmetrica is estimated to reach a top speed of 448.5 km/h.

The Nera Asimmetrica project started in April 2022 in Sanremo, Imperia, Italy, and was completed in June 2022. Throughout the design process, Grosso conducted extensive research, analyzing various vehicle prospects and testing different shapes and solutions using CAD software. The project also involved studying articles, videos, manuals, and interviews with experts to ensure the incorporation of cutting-edge concepts and solutions.

Overcoming the challenges of integrating multiple propulsion systems, energy recovery systems, and maintaining safety and sustainability was no easy feat. However, Grosso and his team designed a modular chassis with a double carbon cage, equipped the passenger compartment with 5 airbags, and implemented an automatic alert system in case of accidents.

The Nera Asimmetrica is not just a hypercar; it's a tribute to the past projected into the future. By combining old solutions with new devices and technologies, Grosso has created a vehicle that offers both intimate and thrilling driving experiences. The freedom to choose between different traction options in this hybrid vehicle gives drivers a sense of total control. The Nera Asimmetrica breaks patterns and paves the way for future generations of hypercars.
